No one should go to bed hungry!!



The rising cost of fuel next week will lead to food increase, which will put more families in a more desperate state. More and more households will feel the effects of the rising cost of living

Hunger can refer to the discomfort, weakness, illness, or pain caused by a long-term lack of food.
Although South Africa  is said to be food secured, more than 11 million households in 2018 experienced food insecurity at times during the year—a condition that can include household members going hungry because they can’t afford enough food, as well as having to skip meals, compromise on nutrition, or rely on emergency food sources such as Community  Nutrition and Development Centres, foodbanks or soup kitchens.

Hunger and food insecurity are large and complex problems, in part because they are closely tied to poverty—a condition that has prevailed since the beginning of recorded history. The presence of hunger and food insecurity in South Africa raises questions of why they prevail, how they should be addressed, and who should be responsible for addressing them.

The tragedy is also felt by  thousands of students in the South African universities. Many of our youth  are already experiencing the effects, It is reported that more 30 percents of students in South African universities are hungry and yet they are expected to learn

V ulnerability is a major obstacle to social and economic development in South Africa. Poor people are especially vulnerable as they have few resources to cope with hazards or shocks. Yet they are significantly more likely to be affected by HIV and Aids, unemployment, trade shocks, climate change, famine and conflict. Sustainable poverty reduction can only be achieved and managed effectively if vulnerability is better understood.  Hunger and poverty in South Africa is almost certain to grow both deeper and more widespread until a robust and sustained recovery takes hold, which may not happen in the next five years or more, unless something drastic is done. In the meantime, the poverty rate will tend to move in step with the unemployment rate, as it always has.  The government – and civil society to a lesser extent – is under pressure to come up with an effective response to these cascading problems.
